Also known as: Full container, Full Container Load
A maritime shipping mode where an importer uses an entire container exclusively for their cargo, without sharing it with other consignees' merchandise.
FCL (Full Container Load) is a maritime shipping mode where a single importer or exporter uses a complete container exclusively for their cargo. Standard containers are 20-foot (TEU, approximately 33 m³) and 40-foot (FEU, approximately 67 m³). FCL advantages include less cargo handling (reducing damage), shorter transit times, lower per-unit cost for large volumes, and greater security since the container is sealed at origin and not opened until destination.
LCL (Less than Container Load)
A maritime shipping mode where cargo from multiple consignees is consolidated into a single container because none has enough volume to fill a full container.
LogisticsCargo Consolidation
A logistics process of grouping multiple small shipments from different shippers into a single transport unit to optimize freight costs and space utilization.
LogisticsOcean Freight
The cost of transporting goods by sea from the port of origin to the port of destination, a fundamental component of customs value.
DocumentsBill of Lading (Ocean)
