An official document issued by the animal health authority of the exporting country certifying that animal-origin products meet the sanitary requirements of the importing country.
A zoosanitary certificate is an official document issued by the animal health authority of the exporting country (in Mexico, SENASICA/SADER) certifying that live animals or animal-origin products have been inspected and meet the zoosanitary requirements of the destination country. Its purpose is to prevent the introduction of animal diseases that could affect public health or national livestock.
Before importing animal products into Mexico, the importer must obtain from SENASICA the specific zoosanitary requirements sheet for the product and country of origin. This document establishes the conditions the exporting country's certificate must meet.
At the point of entry into Mexico, the OISA verifies the zoosanitary certificate and may conduct physical inspection of the merchandise, including sampling for laboratory analysis. Non-compliance may result in the return or destruction of the goods.
