Step-by-step import process

Verify eligibility

Not all vehicles can be imported. Check restrictions by year, model, and origin.

NOM certifications

Obtain safety (NOM-194) and emissions (NOM-042) certificates.

Tariff classification

Classify by vehicle type, engine displacement, weight, and use.

Obtain permits

Get import permit for used vehicles (restrictions apply).

Vehicle inspection

VIN verification, mechanical condition, and NOM compliance.

Clearance and registration

Pay duty, VAT, ISAN tax, and register the vehicle in Mexico.

Common duty rates

Tariffs: 20-50% for vehicles outside FTAs. Under USMCA with 75% regional content: 0%. Additional ISAN tax by vehicle type.
