An import manifest is an electronic document the transport company (shipping line, airline, or trucking company) files with customs upon arriving in national territory. It declares all merchandise carried by the vessel, aircraft, or vehicle, including carrier data, consignees, general cargo description, number of packages, weight, and origin and destination ports. It is the first customs control document, allowing authorities to know what goods enter the country before individual customs declarations are filed.
