Step-by-step import process

Verify species and regulation

Confirm if the wood species is in CITES appendices or requires SEMARNAT permit.

Obtain permits

Apply for forest import permit from SEMARNAT and CITES if applicable.

Phytosanitary certificate

Get phytosanitary certificate from country of origin to prevent pest introduction.

Tariff classification

Classify by species, form (rough, sawn, plywood), and use.

Phytosanitary inspection

SENASICA may inspect the wood to verify absence of pests.

Customs clearance

Complete the import with all permits and tax payment.

Common duty rates

Tariffs: rough wood 0-10%, sawn wood 10-15%, furniture 15-25%. Under USMCA: 0% for wood products from U.S. and Canada.
