A pre-clearance inspection (previo aduanero) is the examination the customs broker or their staff performs on goods before preparing and filing the customs declaration. During the inspection, they verify that merchandise matches the commercial invoice, that tariff classification is correct, packaging is in proper condition, country of origin marking is correct, and applicable non-tariff regulations are met. It is a mandatory professional practice that reduces errors, fines, and delays in customs clearance.
